Updates and Events

Hi Families,
It was so nice to see everyone who came out for the pancake breakfast.  It was a fun event.  One of our classmates won the children's raffle!  I also wanted to update you on some exciting things happening in kindergarten.  First, we have begun planting.  Meghan Martin from the Farm to School program came over from the high school and helped us plant seeds.  We planted cucumbers, herbs, spinach, pumpkins, tomatoes, squash and much more.  We currently have them in our classroom grow lab. Ms. Gentley will continue this study of what plants need to survive as she will begin her solo weeks on Monday.  She and I have been talking to the students about this.

Along with some exciting science activities, we have also been working on a very popular writing unit.  The students are doing opinion writing.  As we talked about at conference time, we made mini posters, wrote letters, and just completed some petitions.  We had our second grade learning buddies come in to see if our petitions were convincing enough for them to sign!  Please enjoy the pictures of both our planting and our writing unit at the bottom of this post.
