Updates and Reminders

Hello Families,

Please sign and return the empty report card envelope.  This helps us to be sure you received it, and we can also use it again at the end of the year.

Also, tomorrow is PJ/Comfy Clothes Day for our class.  You should have received a letter in your Friday folder.  No shorts please and the clothes must be appropriate for school.  For safety purposes, we can not wear slippers. This event is optional.

Lastly, I thought you might enjoy a photo of our latest Spotlight Student!  His mom came in on Thursday to read a wonderful superhero book!

Updates and Reminders

Hello Families,
We have been busy in kindergarten!  Mr. Mosca, our UVM student teacher, has enjoyed getting to know the students.  He has especially enjoyed running our morning meeting time.  Below is a picture of the ever-popular shoe greeting!  Students are asked to remove one shoe and place it in the center of our circle.  We then cover them all up and each student is asked to reach under and pick a shoe.  He or she must find who it belongs to and greet that person.  Mr. Mosca has also been working on problem solving with the students during the sharing portion of the meeting.  He reads a scenario and students think about and share out how that problem could be solved.  In addition to morning meeting, we also do number corner at this time.  Along with the calendar skills, students also practice how to count on from a given number, record a number to represent a set of objects, and identify how many objects in a set.

We had our first Spotlight Student week this past week.  The student brought in two wonderful posters and shared them with the class.  We proudly displayed the posters in the hallway for everyone at Summit to enjoy.  We were also treated to a very special guest.  She came in and read one of their favorite books to the class.  I will remind each family as your child’s week approaches.  Please see me with any questions.

Finally, you should have received a 100th Day of School project sheet in your child’s Friday folder.  I have included a copy below in case you didn’t see it.  This project is a fun way to learn about the number 100.  We also get to do a museum walk into all the kindergarten rooms and see their creativity around how to build 100!  If you have any questions about this, please feel free to ask.

Worms Alive!

Rhonda Mace from the Chittenden Solid Waste District visited our room on Friday.  She also brought her worm friends with her.  The students had a chance to explore worm anatomy, discover how compost adds nutrients to the soil, and demonstrate environmental responsibilities. Please enjoy the pictures below and the students are invited to complete the page that was sent home in their Friday folder as an extension to their learning.
