Updates and Reminders

Hello Families,
We have been busy in kindergarten!  Mr. Mosca, our UVM student teacher, has enjoyed getting to know the students.  He has especially enjoyed running our morning meeting time.  Below is a picture of the ever-popular shoe greeting!  Students are asked to remove one shoe and place it in the center of our circle.  We then cover them all up and each student is asked to reach under and pick a shoe.  He or she must find who it belongs to and greet that person.  Mr. Mosca has also been working on problem solving with the students during the sharing portion of the meeting.  He reads a scenario and students think about and share out how that problem could be solved.  In addition to morning meeting, we also do number corner at this time.  Along with the calendar skills, students also practice how to count on from a given number, record a number to represent a set of objects, and identify how many objects in a set.

We had our first Spotlight Student week this past week.  The student brought in two wonderful posters and shared them with the class.  We proudly displayed the posters in the hallway for everyone at Summit to enjoy.  We were also treated to a very special guest.  She came in and read one of their favorite books to the class.  I will remind each family as your child’s week approaches.  Please see me with any questions.

Finally, you should have received a 100th Day of School project sheet in your child’s Friday folder.  I have included a copy below in case you didn’t see it.  This project is a fun way to learn about the number 100.  We also get to do a museum walk into all the kindergarten rooms and see their creativity around how to build 100!  If you have any questions about this, please feel free to ask.
